Information for you to understand what you are purchasing when you buy from us!

All T1-11 siding is not created equal.

REAL WOOD T1-11 - At Quality Buildings we use 5/8" thick REAL wood T1-11. It has a wood face and consists of 5 layers of real wood. It's outer layer has a rough sawn rich wood grain face that always comes unprimed.

ORIENTED STRAND BOARD -Other types of siding is Oriented Strand Board, also called OSB siding or Smartsiding. This type of siding is produced by laminating wood wafers and strands together into a sheet. It is then coated with a layer of paper. The facing is always primed or painted after the imitation wood grain pattern is embossed under the surface and the T1-11 grooves have been cut in. This type of lumber must be protected from water and moisture to avoid failure. The only thing protecting the osb board is a very thin layer of paper. What happens to the paper once the nails are shot into the board, it pierces that layer of paper and then allows moisture to get into the wafer board.

HARDBOARD - Another from of lumber is Hardboard faced T1-11 siding such as Duratemp. Hardboard is produced by combining fine sawdust and glue under high pressure and heat. This 8th" layer is then embossed with T1-11 design and an imitation wood grain pattern. This outer layer must be primed and painted to try to protect it from rain and damp conditions.
Hardboard is similar to osb siding in that it is susceptible to problems from moisture absorption. The imitation wood grain faced hardboard is laminated to a 1/2" real wood backing sheet. This leads comsumer to believe that the front is real wood also.
You will find lengthy warranties on their product but many shed builders knowingly void these factory warranties by improper installation.

Don't fall prey to slick advertising schemes and outrageous warranty claims of the inferior builders.

Remember, Quality Buildings Unlimited always uses Premium grade T1-11 All wood siding on our Preferred Series to ensure that you have the highest quality siding possible. Many shed builders realize that by decreasing the quality and quantity of the lumber in their building, they could greatly increase their profits. We strive to give the consumer, you, quality and affordability.

NOTE: Also we always hand nail our siding. We never use a high pressure nailer.
